Are the computers new?
No, all the equipment we provide comes from private, corporate, and government donations. All computers are wiped and refurbished before being given out.
Is software loaded on the computers?
We offer Edubuntu (Linux) for free and Windows 10 for $10.00 (or free, with iSeries equipment).
What are the specifications of the equipment available?
Our specifications can be found on our Computers in Stock page.
Are donated hard drives formatted?
Yes, all drives are wiped of data by an approved data overwrite program. If we are unable to wipe the hard drive it will be physically destroyed. We encourage you to wipe your computer data prior to donation.
Will you pick up my donation?
We have limited ability to pick up donations. Please call (204) 988-1790 to inquire about the waiting period. There may be a charge associated with this service.
Do you deliver equipment?
Generally clients are asked to pick up their equipment, however there may be an opportunity for us to deliver orders over 25 pieces. A cost may be associated with this service. Please inquire about this service when applying.

Does it cost anything to receive computers?
Please refer to our fees page or application form specific to your client type.
Are taxes charged on orders?
Yes, PST (7%) is charged on all hardware and software.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, we offer a 1 year warranty. The computer will be repaired or replaced without charge. There is no warranty on consumables such as laptop batteries and printer toners.
How many computers/laptops can I order?
Different client groups have different equipment limits. Please see appropriate application for limits.
Is there an after-hours drop off for donations?
No, all donations must be dropped off during regular business hours; Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30. Occasionally we will open on Saturdays. Please call our office at (204) 988-1790 for next available dates.
When do I pay for my order?
Payment is accepted upon pick up.
Can a K-12 student apply for computers?
Currently K-12 students are not eligible to apply for computers directly. If they are attending a publicly funded school within Manitoba, the school is eligible to apply on behalf of the K-12 student.
Am I eligible for a computer if I am taking an online course?
Yes, if you are a resident of Manitoba and can provide proof of enrollment in a recognized post-secondary institution you can apply using the Post-Secondary / Adult Education application form.
Am I eligible for a tax receipt?
Only complete functional computers meeting our minimum specifications will be eligible for a tax receipt. Full details can be found under "Reuse Equipment Requirements" on our Donate page.
Can someone else pick up my order for me?
Yes, you can have someone else pick up your order on your behalf with written authorization and indentification. If you are a student, they must provide a copy of your student card.
Do I have to return the computer I got from Computers for Schools?
There is no requirement to return the equipment. However we are an authorized EPRA collection depot and can recycle the equipment responsibly. Electronic equipment should not be disposed of in the landfill.
What kind of monitor can I get?
All monitors we provide are LCD monitors. The largest monitors that can be paired with Core2/AMD desktop computers are 19 inches. i-Series desktop computers will be paired with larger monitors.
